Kai Monroe Spring Raw Run

Kai Monroe Downhill Design Video

Our homie Kai Monroe started making quite the name for himself at the end of last season when he started dropping gnarly videos on the regular, killin’ it at events, and got picked up as a first round pick for Blood Orange’s Am Team. He just dropped his new raw run for his sponsor Downhill Design wheels. The homie shows that despite the cold and sometimes wet winter, his skills didn’t get very rusty. This video doesn’t do his shredding full justice, but shows that Kai definitely goes hard, check out his little kiss with the snowbank at the end as proof.

Video: Chris Getting Raw

As we, ever so slowly, emerge from the depths of a dreadful winter, the weather, and roads, are becoming more and more conducive to skating. Chris and I took full advantage, strapped the camera to the car, and pressed record. Chris finally got to put some real wear and tear on his 82a motions, and, as you can see, he definitely digs them. Spring is here, go skate.

Video: GMR vs. Team Mids

Some of the original Team Mids members packed their skate van up and headed west for the winter to discover what all the hype was about. Ben DeSnyder was already out there doing some covert spy work going to school and scamming runs on the regular and took the reigns on the camera so that Pete Laugh, Stephan Kaiter-Snyder, Tryan George, East Coast Mac , Francis Cooper Darquea and Kai Salam could put in some work and get midsy on GMR. We weren’t keeping score, but it definitely looked like Team Mids won.

Score so far: Team Mids: 1      West Coast: 0

Video: Attack Of The Groms….Noah Wintman Shreds

There has recently been a large increase in grom population around the Western Mass region as well as entire east coast. Personally, I love the groms, as long as they got some good vibes, aren’t focusing on the wrong things and aren’t blowing the spots. Groms got good energy and they push the limits. Noah Wintman is one of Western Mass’s gnarliest groms and this video defiantly deserves some attention.

Video: East Coast OG Anthony Flis Gets Down

This video hasn’t been getting nearly the attention it deserves so I felt like I had to share it to make sure I did my part in spreading the word. East Coast OG and Comet Skateboards rider Anthony Flis gets down in upstate New York, taking to some gnarly runs in and around Ithaca and going ball-t0-the-walls fast while managing to maintain a solid and steady steeze. Watch, learn, be amazed. The Wild Boar is uncaged folks.

Video: Derty Jerz

last turn of the freeride section, steep, banked, way too much fun.

Last weekend a couple of East Coast skaters, Tom Leary, Jordan Billingsly, and Alec Caputo, crashed at my house for a slide jam and a dank day of shredding. We woke up early and skated until we couldn’t. We also got some ridiculously dank sandwiches at my local deli. The slide jam was cool, buncha shredders showed up, no problems with the police, and the locals were pretty stoked for the most part, all in all it went very smoothly. After the jam we munched on said sandwiches and headed to this gnarly, turny, steep ass road that we sessioned for the rest of the day. A lot of other cool people came too, like Josh Wright, Laura Nocka, Noah Davis, …josh, and Tyler Doherty. Everyone was ripping, and we managed to film some clips that Tom threw together to make an incredibly rad edit. Check this video out and subscribe to his channel, kid knows how to make a fucking video!!

SHOUT OUT TO ZEN LONGBOARDS FOR KEEPING IT REAL AND SPONSORING THE SLIDE JAM!

.. Oh yeah and Alec made an edit too. You probably already saw it in one of our previous posts but I’m gonna re post it here anyways. Check out Alec’s channel for solid edits of some skaters doing it right on the Right coast.

Photos: Lauren and Me in Zombie Town, U.S.A.

Lauren and I were skating the derelict old village area of one of our favorite freeride spots and decided to take some photos today. These are two of our favorite shots, if you want to see the entire album head on over to our Facebook Page and become a fan of ours while you’re at it!

Thanks to Lauren for snapping the shot of me!

Pennsylvania President’s Day Slide Jam — 2/19/12

Despite the groundhog telling us there’s another 6 weeks of winter on the way we’re still seeing a ton of events being lined up for the immediate future — looks like the season is definitely under way! We’ve already seen a few downhill events go down in Florida, Puerto Rico, and Maryland and it’s looking like the slide jams are starting back up too. If you’re itching to get some slide jam competition in right away and you’re in the Tri-State/PA area then you’re in luck with the President’s Day Slide Jam that’s just 10 days away.

What better way to spend President’s Day weekend than shredding some thane? Starting at 12:00 noon the event is going down at Core Creek Park in Langhorne, PA — right on the PA/NJ line, making it a pretty accessible spot for a ton of shredders. As of right now 86 people on Facebook have said their going with another 59 saying that they might go, making this a pretty good sized event for so early in the season.

Loaded/Orangatang and Phat DeanZ were amongst the first to support the event with others such as Original, Tutone, Caliber Trucks, Nelson Longboards, and Volante Wheels meaning lots of prizes for hard skating. While it’s an outlaw event the organizer, Kyle Mac, promises plenty of backup roads very close by so no matter the location, a slide jam will be going down.

If you’ve got more questions head over to the Facebook Event page or leave a comment below and I’ll do my best to get back to you.

Video: Freezing Flannel Freeriding in CT

I won’t lie, I’m very excited to be posting this video as it’s one of the first videos that I’ve had a major hand in helping produce. Credit really goes to Original rider and friend Billy Wilson, though, who had the vision for most of the shots and did all the editing to make this video come out as well as it did. I learned a ton about filming through this process and can’t wait to keep working on videos in the future. Most of the riding is done by me (Mike DiPietro) and Billy with Jake Uterstaedt making a couple brief appearances as well.

I’m so stoked this edit came out so well and think it showcases how gnarly Billy is at mixing freeriding and freestyle  to make for some steezy tricks and all around amazing riding. Also a quick side note: Billy doesn’t wear slide gloves. Just something to keep in mind as you see him bombing fast and doing huge standies… For him, failure is not an option.

Setups and such:

Billy: Original Apex 40DC w/ Randall 45* trucks and Abec 11 Flashbacks
Mike: TR Custom Blitz w/ Surf-Rodz 45* RKP trucks and Orangatang 80a & 83a Stimulus wheels
Jake: Earthwing Hightailer w/ Caliber 50* trucks and Cult Classics (I think…)

Big shout outs go to our supporters at Original, Surf-Rodz, and Orangatang.
