THERE ARE UPDATES TO THIS POST DATED AND IN RED! READ CAREFULLY AS SOME SCHEDULES HAVE CHANGED!
10/8/13: There’s now a wristband required to attend the post-Bomb BBQ on Saturday. Read the update below for all the info.
About the Broadway Bomb
For those of you unfamiliar with the Broadway Bomb and what all the hype is about, we’ll give you some quick context. What started at as a ‘death race’ over a decade ago between some OG NYC skaters has become less of a race (due to the massive amounts of people), and more of a free-for-all group skate, with the with thousands of riders moving in mass from 116th and Broadway to the statue of the Charging Bull on the Bolling Green in Downtown Manhattan.
With the Bomb’s increase in popularity over the years, it’s grown from just an unreal skating experience on Saturday to a full weekend long event starting at noon on Friday and ending whenever the fun stops on Sunday. If this is your first time coming, rest up because it’s going to be a long and fast paced weekend for sure.
Update 10/7: Cami Best and some of the other Concrete Kings and NYCL crew members, including our homies Kai Monroe and Sam Ettorre, took to the streets and filmed this dank preview video fro the bomb this year:
Broadway Bomb 2013 Weekend Schedule
Friday (October 11th, 2013):
The fun starts on Friday at 12:00 noon over at the Longboard Loft (132 Allen Street, Manhattan) with the World Skate Fam Welcome Party hosted by Bustin’ Boards, Push Culture Apparel, and Wheelbase Magazine. This all day event should end up being a BLAST and isn’t something you’re going to want to miss if you can help it at all.
There are multiple changes to the schedule originally posted in the image above. Read the paragraph below and check the bullet points for the CORRECT new schedule.
Starting at 12:00 noon you can stop by the Longboard Loft to shoot the shit, win some gear and prizes, and party a bit until the real fun starts at 5PM with drink specials next door. Then at 7:15PM the Bustin’ crew is holding a special premier screening of their new video that was shot and filmed in China, something everyone’s been pretty stoked about. After that, at 7:30PM it’s a city skate and slash over to Uncle Funky’s for their 21+ Meet and Greet. The Uncle Funky’s Annual Meet and Greet actually starts at 8:00PM for those of you not skating over from the Loft, and is now co-hosted by ANVL Boards since their Longboard Loft party was cancelled. It’s a $5 cover which will go towards a raffle ticket and support Stoked Mentoring. The party will run until 11:00PM, at which point you’ll be on your own to either sleep or continue the party elsewhere in NYC.
- 12:00PM – 5:00PM @ Longboard Loft: Chill/Party/Skate/Win Gear
- 5:00PM – 8:00 PM @ Lucky Jack’s Café: Drink specials and shenanigans
- 7:15 PM @ Undisclosed: Premier of the new Bustin’ China video
- 7:30 PM: Group skate/city slash to Uncle Funky’s (21+ only!)
- 8:00 PM-11:00PM @ Uncle Funky’s Boardshop: Uncle Funky’s Annual Meet and Greet
Saturday (October 12th, 2013) @ 12:00 PM **BROADWAY BOMB DAY**:
Saturday is the big day. Grab a Gatorade early in the morning to kick that hangover, a Ham and Steeze breakfast sango at the dope ass deli a few blocks away, and head on over to 116th and Broadway to meet up with everyone else.
The Bomb goes off at 12:00 noon sharp every year, so don’t be late or you’ll miss the rush out of the park and up the hill onto Broadway, one of the best parts of the experience. From there it’s the usual Broadway Bomb race course down Broadway. Just keep bombing down Broadway till you hit the Charging Bull Statue then start heading over to the BBQ.
After the race we’ll move over to the East River Park (near the 10th St footbridge) for some BBQ fun, give-aways, and hanging out with some good people. It’s crazy to see how many people are actually at the event when everyone’s chillin’ in the same spot, the entire area swarms with skaters.
UPDATE 10/8/13: YOU’LL NEED A WRIST BAND TO ATTEND THE POST-BOMB BBQ! Because there’s a 1,400 person cap on how many people can attend the BBQ (as the City’s permit states), they’ve got to distribute wrist bands for anyone wanting to go.
You can buy a wristband at Friday night’s meet and greet party at Unkle Funky’s, or find Jimmy Soladay before the race to buy one. (best to get there around 11:00AM if you need to buy one). They’re $5 each, with proceeds going towards Stoked Mentoring.
Every $300 raised pays for a year of after school programs for kids. Once the wrist bands are sold out, you’ll be on the other side of the fence looking in at all the cool kids having fun.
Saturday Night (October 12th, 2013):
Once the Bomb is over and the BBQ is wrapped up the plan is to head back to the Longboard Loft for a 21+ after-party hosted by ANVL Boards and sponsored by Brooklyn Workshop, Perky Jerky, and Uber. Adult refreshments will be served and snacks will be on hand thanks to Perky Jerky. It’s all to celebrate the upcoming launch of ANVL’s HANZO longboard, which features some pretty unbelievable shapes and some rad features, especially for the commuter skater. The party is going to run from 8PM until 10PM and you need to RSVP here.
This event has been CANCELLED! You’ll be on your own to get rowdy in NYC for Saturday after the Bomb’s BBQ.
Sunday (October 13th, 2013):
Hopefully you didn’t overdo it too hard on Saturday night, because Sunday is just as big a day thanks to Steve Kong’s legendary Post-Bomb Slide Jam, hosted in partnership with NYC’s very own Earthwing Skateboards at Darktower (155th and Broadway).
Dubbed ‘the coolest slide jam on the coolest hill’ this is an event that is LEGENDARY every year. With so many rad skaters in one place things heat up very quickly and the skating gets to another level before you know it.
We don’t have all the details quite yet, but know that it’ll be going down at 11:15AM, so make sure you’re up and at ‘em and ready to go. We also know that Kai Monroe will be bringing a kicker, so expect shit to be going down and some dank skating to be seen!
