Tristan Burke: T-Cat Design

Tristan Burke, 21 years old of Umass Amherst is a shredder! Riding for Lifelong Longboards, Team Mids, Eden Racing, and perpetually down with all things East Coast, this dude can skate. Aside from skating, Tristan has always had a love for art as well and this has led to his new project called: T-Cat Designs. His artwork is made using low-grade markers and he describes it as “a cluster f*ck of colors”.

“I first got into this kind of stuff through prototyping decks for LifeLong. Wether a given deck had a graphic screened on it or not, there was plenty of untouched wood grain. At first I just colored on a few decks for myself and the fun of it, but everyone’s reactions to what I considered doodles really blew me away.”

Tristan has recently been creating custom board graphics for Eden Racing and plans for his artwork to be featured on the not-yet-released Mids Lids are also in the works. Tristan is now taking your requests to draw rad as f*ck sharpie designs on your deck, full face, t-shirt, instruments, pets and anything else you can think of.

“Eden Racing’s initial support of my designs was what really pushed me to take this a little more seriously and try and get my designs out there as much as I can. I really enjoy it, saw that I could make a bit of money from it, and saw the opportunity to combine skateboarding and coloring, which are the two things I actually give a shit about these days”.

Rider Profile: Henry Goguen

One of the main reasons I started Skate The East was to shine a light on East Coast skaters and give them a little more exposure. While I’ve been able to do that a little through posting dank videos from East Coast riders, I’ve been wanting to step it up a little more for some time now. One thing that’s been kicking around in the back of my mind has been the idea of doing rider profiles: short clips that introduce you to a new shredder who you might not have heard of yet, show you a little of what they got, and show people that the East Coast has some real rippers indeed. Well folks, here’s our first one.

Henry Goguen is from Washington, D.C. originally but currently calls UMASS Amherst his home. He’s a perfect example of an East Coast all-around shredder who just wants to go out, throw down, and have fun and we’re honored to have him be our first Rider Profile. Keep your eyes peeled because we think you’ll start to see Henry in a lot more places as the season goes on.

If you’re following along with our Facebook Page (which you should be by now) you’ll remember that I posted an update earlier saying that we had perfect conditions up here in New England and were off to take downhill runs and footage, an endeavor that proved very successful. After our visit to the Surf-Rodz shop this past week Lauren and I were super stoked about everything Wayne and his crew are doing and called our good friend Henry in for a good ole Surf-Rodz downhill session. Just like I promised I got right to work on editing when I got home and cranked out a fun little downhill video featuring Lauren Suchocki, Henry Lancaster-Goguen, and myself.

Eden Racing Precision Spacers Give-Away and Video

I think we can all agree that few things are better in this world than free stuff. Quality free stuff is even better, which is why I felt the need to turn your attention to a give-away our friend Russ at Eden Racing is running right now.

The precision spacers that have been gaining quite a name for themselves throughout the Northeast for killing chatter have been back in stock for a couple weeks now, and Russ has decided to give away sets to 5 lucky people who “Like” their page on Facebook and share the contest post. The contest is going to run for a week, meaning you have until Thursday (1/19) to share the post with your friends — make sure the privacy setting is set to “public” so that they can see your entry! If you click on the image below it will take you to the Facebook post to share!

You’ll also probably remember me mentioning that I got a chance to shred with Eden rider Josh Wright along with Lauren Suchocki and Russ for a couple days last week in Western Mass. Josh and Russ ended up getting some helmet cam footy and posted it on YouTube last night. The last run was quite a surprise, especially for Lauren and I who saw it live, and we’re stoked Josh and Russ got it on camera! If it looks similar to the video that Lauren and Douglass Schmidt did not long ago, it’s because it was filmed at the same location. Peep it below:
