In Brief: Ithaca Skate Jam 2013

Wow. That’s all I can seem to keep thinking as I reflect back on what a rad weekend the guys at Comet Skateboards put together out in Ithaca, NY. There’s so much to say, show, and share with you guys between one of the gnarliest events ever seen out east and the epic pre and post sessions. I’ve got 5.5 gigs of photos alone, never mind the amount of video we took, too.

We’ll start with this photo series of Brian Peck popping an absolutely chiller ollie off the kicker and onto the hip to whet your whistles a little. Stay tuned for tons more soon.

Brian Peck pops an ollie, starts sweatin' uhhh.

2013 Ithaca Slide Jam Registration Open

ithacaslidejamregistration2013Registration is open for this year’s Ithaca Slide Jam, going down on April 27th in Ithaca, NY. Cost is $40 to skate one of the gnarliest hills in Ithaca with one of the raddest group of freeride skaters from all over not only the East Coast, but United States (and even Toronto, Canada). This is one of the must-attend events and you absolutely won’t be disappointed.

Much of the Comet Team will be on hand and shredding, including our good friend Brian Peck, Liam Morgan, Jesse Breiman, Eric Jensen, Blake Smith, Pam Diaz as well as Marcus Bandy from Wheelbase Magazine and Scott Lembach from Muirskate.

Make sure to include your e-mail so you can get a receipt. You’ll need to print this and bring it to the event as proof of purchase. If you’re under 18 you’ll also need a completed waiver. It’s not clear if you’ll need one if you’re over 18, but it’s likely. You can find the waiver here.

You’ll also need to be rocking a helmet, no exceptions. Other than that the event is going to be laid back and tons of fun.

So, what does your $40 get you your asking?

  • Closed hill skate jam
  • Fresh pavement at a consistent 15% grade
  • Skate park terrain
  • 6 hours of open shredding fun
  • As many runs as you can skate
  • Roots / Beats / Words with emcee Mike Judah
  • Official Skate Jam Curbside Lunch
  • Official Skate Jam Coozie
  • Official Skate Jam T shirt
  • Official Skate Jam Art Zine
  • Official Skate Jam 30% off discount code good from time of purchase til Monday, April 29th, unlimited usage. email with order number for code.
  • Prizes for overall style, individuality, and more from the spy judges
  • Lots of stuff to give away from Comet, Volante, Caliber, Blood Orange

We are keeping the event super simple. Grab your board and take as many runs as you like. The hill is steep and smooth, and we’re filling it with shred-worthy goodness. We look at this hill every day and wish there were no cars on it. On Saturday 4/27, that will come true and we are stoked to skate it with you.

This is how slide jams are supposed to be done and is a vanguard for east coast jams. With last year being such a big hit we can’t see what the guys up North came up with as a follow-up. Make sure to see our event post for more critical info about the jam. Have you registered yet?

Ithaca Hill Jam – April 27

ithaca jam flyer 2013

When: April 26-28th
Where: Top of Buffalo St. (at Eddy St.) in Ithaca, NY

One of the East Coast’s biggest events is back for 2013! Comet Skateboards is putting on what’s sure to be a rad weekend of skateboarding. In addition to the main event on Saturday the 27th, there will be a fundraiser/bowl session at DIY spot on friday afternoon, and an outlaw race on Sunday. Location on the race will be announced at a later date, however inside sources are telling me this is a pretty burly course at around 45mph with some tight corners. For those who weren’t at the event last year (myself included), this is definitely not one to miss. With the slide jam hill closed off to traffic, the guys at Comet will have plenty of freedom to build gnarly obstacles without any worries about the law interrupting our fun. If ramps aren’t your thing, the slide jam hill is steep enough for everyone to have fun on.
