The 2nd Annual Longboard for Life Slide Jam — 6/1

When: June 1st
Where: Woodcrest Drive, North Andover Massachusetts

Tyler Bainbridge’s second annual Longboard for Life event is back for 2013! Tyler and the organizers are hosting the slide jam to raise money for the American Cancer Society. There will be a 10-15 dollar entry fee for all those hoping to compete. Last year the event raised $1500 dollars, and with double the attendees expected this year, the event should raise far more.

Slide Jam For Life

The event will be completely sanctioned, meaning no cars and no cops to ruin our fun. With a very high level of competition last year, the jam will be split up into a “pro” division for those seasoned riders, and a grom/amateur division for the less experienced. With over 100 competitors expected this year, the different divisions will allow for the newer guys to get all the time they want on the hill while still allowing for some intense, high speed riding to keep the energy high.

The Longboard for Life slide jam is sure to be a rad time. Come out, skate, and support a great cause. You can find out more and RSVP through the Facebook Event.

Video: Sevik Tries Mids

Jon Sevik aka “crazytac0” traveled up to Massachusetts to visit Tom Leary, Finn Pounds and Jon Katz and eat some potato wedges…or something. No matter what the point of the trip actually was, the fact of the matter is he got some dank as hell footy of these guys and did an awesome job chefing up the edit. Keep an eye out the entire video, as Tom drops some of his gnarly toesides while Finn and Jon keep it real all the way through.

There were also more than a few parts where I almost cracked up laughing, especially when you see Finn and Jon for the first time. Make sure to peep it and drop a comment with your thoughts.

Video: Eric Roth does G-Form and Skate The East

I’ve been waiting for this video to drop since Eric and Tom filmed it. Eric slays some fast and gnarly 360’s and the accoutrement is absolutely killer. To top it all off this is one of the best edited videos I’ve seen from Tom, implementing some next level techniques and showcasing the fact that he’s really begun stepping his production levels up.

Also — can you see Eric’s G-Form pads holding him back at all? That’s what we thought. Look for our video review in the near future.

Video: Attack Of The Groms….Noah Wintman Shreds

There has recently been a large increase in grom population around the Western Mass region as well as entire east coast. Personally, I love the groms, as long as they got some good vibes, aren’t focusing on the wrong things and aren’t blowing the spots. Groms got good energy and they push the limits. Noah Wintman is one of Western Mass’s gnarliest groms and this video defiantly deserves some attention.

Video: Tom Leary gets Doggied-Out for Nelson Longboards

Massachusetts shredder and Team Doggied-Out rider Tom Leary lays down the steeze in this new video as he is welcomed to the Nelson Team.  I’m sure Tom and Nelson are both stoked on this one. You’ve seen some of Tom’s work in the past, filming and editing for some of the Norm Plante videos that came out right before Norm went to school out west, and will certainly be seeing it more in the future as he continues to push it to the next level.

Video: Sweepin’ ‘Pins

Henry and I headed out today to one of our favorite spots in New England with the gnarliest set of hairpins that I’ve ever come across. The pave is perfect for pre-drifting and the way they’re banked makes it feel like a roller coaster — mix in this amazing fall weather and you have a perfect skate session.

Enjoy as Henry shreds and let us know what you think in the comments! Give it a ‘Thumbs Up’ and make sure you’re subscribed to stay up to date with videos that we add and don’t post here on the blog!

Team Mids Presents: A Day of Downhill at Prospector Hill (MA — 5/5/12)

If you’re looking for some absolutely fun downhill action then this is the event to be at. Going down on May 5th, Team Mids is hosting a downhill race 20 minutes outside of Boston in Waltham, MA at “Prospector Hill.” The exact location will be announced as the race draws near to prevent it from being blown up too early, if you’d like to skate it before the race feel free to contact the host via Facebook. The race will feature 3 man heats with the top 2 moving on to the next round and will be on a closed course with top speeds in the 40s. Sound fun yet? It gets better.

In true East Coast fashion the course is a little janky and will surely cause some spills for first-time riders as it requires some high speed speed-checks to get around the 9 challenging turns. The course length is 3/4 of a mile and has 2 very short push sections. The course is dangerous while riding in packs, especially for those who aren’t used to it, so a helmet and gloves are going to be required and every racer will also need to sign and submit a waiver. It’s all going to start at 11:00AM but we recommend getting there a little early to walk the course, get ready, and talk to the event organizers a little bit.

For this same reason there will be qualifying runs to keep safety as high as possible (we have a note on how they’ll judge who is fit to race and who isn’t below). Race fees are paid on the race day after you qualify and will help pay for  water and other essentials (I’ve also heard the possibility of a cash prize!).  Not only that, but any profits are being donated to Restorative Justice, so your fees are going to a good spot no matter what which should stoke you out even more!

So how are they doing qualifying you ask?

About qualifications:
The admins of this event will position themselves at the most challenging corner of the hill, and the prospecting racers will skate into the corner as best they can. We will see whether or not you’re fit to race (don’t worry, we’ll be very forgiving and will be able to recognize skill even if you don’t make the turn). This will be hilarious to watch.

A large number of high quality sponsors are throwing in some swag for the event such as Lifelong Longboards, Loaded/Orangatang, Bustin’ Boards, Passion Skate Decks and a number of others. This is also one of the first events we’re helping to sponsor and are super stoked to be a part of it!

Check out a couple of videos the guys did to promote the race, the first of which is one of the funniest promo videos I’ve ever seen. The second video does a very good job at showing you the whole course including the push sections. Props to Stretch House Media’s Eric Roth on those.

Photos: Lauren and Me in Zombie Town, U.S.A.

Lauren and I were skating the derelict old village area of one of our favorite freeride spots and decided to take some photos today. These are two of our favorite shots, if you want to see the entire album head on over to our Facebook Page and become a fan of ours while you’re at it!

Thanks to Lauren for snapping the shot of me!
