Pennsylvania President’s Day Slide Jam — 2/19/12

Despite the groundhog telling us there’s another 6 weeks of winter on the way we’re still seeing a ton of events being lined up for the immediate future — looks like the season is definitely under way! We’ve already seen a few downhill events go down in Florida, Puerto Rico, and Maryland and it’s looking like the slide jams are starting back up too. If you’re itching to get some slide jam competition in right away and you’re in the Tri-State/PA area then you’re in luck with the President’s Day Slide Jam that’s just 10 days away.

What better way to spend President’s Day weekend than shredding some thane? Starting at 12:00 noon the event is going down at Core Creek Park in Langhorne, PA — right on the PA/NJ line, making it a pretty accessible spot for a ton of shredders. As of right now 86 people on Facebook have said their going with another 59 saying that they might go, making this a pretty good sized event for so early in the season.

Loaded/Orangatang and Phat DeanZ were amongst the first to support the event with others such as Original, Tutone, Caliber Trucks, Nelson Longboards, and Volante Wheels meaning lots of prizes for hard skating. While it’s an outlaw event the organizer, Kyle Mac, promises plenty of backup roads very close by so no matter the location, a slide jam will be going down.

If you’ve got more questions head over to the Facebook Event page or leave a comment below and I’ll do my best to get back to you.

Last Minute: 2011 Philadelphia Push Race 8/14 (RAIN OR SHINE)

Oh man am I late on posting this one, but I guess it’s better late than never. I somehow completely missed the fact that the 2011 Philadelphia Push Race is SUNDAY AUGUST 14TH (that’s tomorrow/today depending on when you actually read this post). The race sounds like a ton of fun and supports the Ian Tillman Foundation, spreading helmet awareness and putting helmets on the heads of skaters across the country. The race sounds like it has a fun spirit to it and will without a doubt be a great time, rain or shine.

Registration, which is $5, starts at 10:00AM and the race will start at 11:00AM. Riders should meet in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art (on the Rocky steps) for registration and more pre-race instruction. A HELMET is required to qualify and register — no registration means you can’t officially finish and aren’t eligible for prizes or the raffle. It’s a pretty simple — wear your lid and you get a chance to win great stuff. The sponsor list is HUGE for this event (like 14 deep) so you’re likely to walk away with something sweet if you’re a winner. Speaking of winners…

There are multiple classes for the race: Mini, Dropped, Regular, Dancer and Women’s. The classes should pretty much speak for themselves but if they don’t, this is how they break down according to the Facebook Page:

dropped- anything lowered, deck is lowered, or drop-thru (regardless of size)
mini- any board shorter than 29″
regular – any board between – 30″ and 47″
dancer – any board bigger than 48″
women’s – must be a real woman (no cross-dressers 😉 )

Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in all 5 categories although if you place in one class you can’t place in another. If you happen to finish in the top 3 for one of the classes you’re ineligible for the raffle — one prize per person for the event. If you’re a woman and place in one of the board classes you can choose where you want to be represented (the board class or the women’s class).

The other major rule other than wearing a helmet is that you must finish the race on the path. Emphasis on finishing the race there.

The event sounds like it’ll be a very fun time with a lot of great faces. As of this post there are 68 racers that pre-registered and there’s sure to be a bunch more that show up in the morning and register on site. If you’re reading this before the morning you might still be able to register online by clicking here.

Below is a map of the push route for tomorrow. Have fun and send some pictures of the event to mike [at] skatetheeeast.net so we can post a follow up!

Video: Shredding in Peterborough and Bethlehem, PA

I stumbled onto this video of some PA shredders ripping up some hills in Peterborough and Bethlehem, PA. I haven’t skated these areas but have been out that way often and have to say there looks like there are ample hills to shred at any given time.

Happy July 4th weekend! Don’t forget about the ‘Crete Bash and Castle Craig Slide Jam, both events are sure to make your holiday even better.

Photos and Video from the Clearfield Mustache Derby 3

I found a great Flickr photo set from the Clearfield Mustache Derby in Central, PA last weekend (June 4&5) along with an awesome video. The event looked like it turned out to be a ton of fun. 64 riders raced total and a ton of spectators came out to see the mustaches and their owners fly down the course. The weekend was jam packed with the Central Park Longboard Race and the Baltimore Slide Jam as well, making for a ton of new videos and photos to check out.

Clearfield Mustache Derby June 4-5

Can’t make the 2011 Central Park Longboard Race and looking for something else to do this weekend? Don’t worry, the 3rd Annual Clearfield Mustache Derby is taking place this weekend, June 4th and 5th in Clearfield, PA. This event looks like it’s going to be a ton of fun both days and shouldn’t be missed if you can help it. Saturday the 4th will be a slide jam followed by the downhill race on Sunday the 5th. The event looks like it’s going to be a ton of fun and pull in some great sponsors like ABEC 11, Bliss Longboards and Randal Trucks just to name a few. You need a mustache in addition to a helmet and gloves to race so make sure you don’t leave anything at home.

If you have any questions reach out to PADHOutlaw@gmail.com and get them cleared up before Saturday.
