Push Culture Family Picnic — 5/25

Marc Dean, the organizer of I Love DH, is at it again, teaming up this time with the guys over at Push Culture to bring you the Push Culture Family Picnic going down on Burke Mountain in Vermont on Saturday, May 25 (Memorial Day Weekend). Unlike I Love DH, the PC Family Picnic will be the east coast’s first downhill freeride event with a focus on having fun with a group of like-minded individuals, rather than racing. This is a downhill freeride in the classic sense, think more along the lines of the Maryhill freerides and less along the lines of a slide jam, with speeds reaching in excess of 50 MPH. Both leathers and a full-face helmet will be required to participate (gloves should go without saying).

The course itself is a 1 mile closed, private road featuring at least 6 hairpin turns from the summit of Burke Mountain near the Kingdom Trails in Vermont (bring your mountain bikes too!). While no formal heats are planned there’ll no doubt be some friendly competitions going down and there will be experienced riders and coaches on hand to help give some guidance and advice to newer riders and even hold a couple of clinics — a dope opportunity if you’re just starting to skate downhill!

The price to participate is $162.00 which includes 3 meals (breakfast and dinner Saturday, and breakfast Sunday), a party, and skate runs till you drop. Register here before it’s too late! This should be a wicked fun event with some of the best riders from throughout the Northeast coming to chill and skate one of the dopest roads we’ll see this season. Keep your eyes posted here as well as the Facebook Event for any major updates. We’re looking forward to what will undoubtably be a new Memorial Day Weekend tradition for east coast skaters!

Will you be in attendance? Sound off in the comments.

I Love DH 2 — June 21-23

When: June 21-23
Where: Clarence D Lane Road/South Street, Wyndham, NY

The I Love DH event at Windham Mountain in upstate New York is back for 2013! For those who don’t know, I Love DH is a sanctioned race and slide jam organized by Marc Dean and the guys behind Push Culture News, Brian and Travis Davenport. This year they are expanding the event by adding a push race as well. With three full days of closed road access, there will be plenty of time for shreddage.

The schedule thus looks like this (we’ll get specific times when we can):

Friday June 21st- Push Race and Practice heats, riders dinner in the evening
Saturday June 22nd- Qualifiers and Slide Jam (hosted by Steve Kong) in the evening
Sunday June 23rd- Race

The downhill course will certainly provide for some intense racing with top speeds around 50mph and two crash corners. There are race divisions for all ages and skill levels including Pro, Am, Juniors (1 and 2), Women’s, and street luge. Registration is $212 for your first class and a $25 fee paid at the event for each additional class you choose to race in (if there are too many people on the hill and safety is compromised, the organizers may limit racers to only their first class choice). Both leathers and a full-face helmet are required for anyone wanting to participate in the race (gloves go without saying, as well).

For the dedicated freeriders making the trip, Earthwing Skateboards team rider, and events coordinator, Steve Kong will be taking the reigns on this years jam, making sure it will be as rad as possible. Whatever you are into, this will be one of the best weekends for skateboarding on the east coast, so don’t miss out.
